Job Description

This position performs all those routine duties of those who build, modify, maintain, or repair physical buildings, structures, facilities, and properties.  Holds a broad knowledge of standard practices and procedures of construction trades such as plumbing, HVAC, electrical, carpentry, painting and mechanical systems, including materials and tools; applicable code requirements; methods and practices followed in the maintenance of tools, machinery, and equipment; safety precautions to be observed in the maintenance and installation of electronic and mechanical equipment; and work order request systems. 

Responsibilities

  • Repairs, maintains, or constructs physical structures or facilities.
  • Carries out routine maintenance or repair activities as painting, plumbing, electrical, furnishing repair or installation, unique cleaning duties, trash removal, property problem resolution or maintenance, snow/trash removal, etc.
  • Installs, builds, or repairs, walls, ceilings, floors, building trim, cabinets, doors, windows, etc.
  • Visually inspects and maintains a variety of facilities, machinery, equipment, etc. and recommends unique or expensive repairs and replacements.
  • Performs preventative maintenance duties and routine repair on such mechanical, electrical, or water equipment as building heating systems, air handling systems, potable water systems, etc.
  • Assists with the work and completion of Capital Projects.
  • Assists in detecting systems problems and in replacing defective machines and equipment.
  • Cleans, maintains, repairs, and lubricates basic machinery/equipment.
  • Cleans work area, tools, and equipment.
  • May perform various cleaning duties and transport trash or waste to disposal areas.
  • Expeditor for Anchorage NANA Building.
  • Provide security patrol around building perimeter and parking lot. Report suspicious activity to direct supervisor.
  • Complete all work orders tasks assigned in a timely manner.
  • May alternate on call duties with other Maintenance Generalist as well be required to work overtime.
  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
  • Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit’s success also may be assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • At least two (2) years of experience directly related to the construction, repair, or maintenance of structures, plant facilities, and/or properties.
  • Valid Driver’s license with an acceptable driving record to be eligible under NANA’s vehicle insurance policy.

 

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Weather: Occasionally exposed to moderate/harsh weather conditions; requires work be done both inside and outside.

Noise level: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but the employee may be exposed to varying levels of noise at times when in the field or at the Red Dog Mine.

Description of environment: Incumbent must be able to work in less-than-ideal offices, facilities, or situations. In the field the employee will be required to walk over uneven terrain, for periods up to an hour or longer, and may be exposed to loud machinery. The overnight accommodation in villages are limited and the employee may be required to sleep on the floor or cot in a local school and bring their own provisions for meals.

Physical requirements:  Employee is required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.

The position requires reading, detailed work, problem solving, interactions with other companies including other NANA companies, reasoning, math, language, presentations, verbal and written communication, analytical reasoning, managing multiple concurrent tasks and will likely have constant interruptions.
